| Sun | 15 Apr | GEELONG HALF MARATHON 24st Geelong Half Marathon Sunday April 15, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The Geelong Half-Marathon continues to grow in popularity with over 900 entries last year. The (certified distance) course along the banks of the Barwon River in Geelong is scenic and away from road traffic. This run always takes place on the first Sunday after Easter (Sunday April 15, 2012). Four former Olympians, Chris Umthank, Lea Troop, Steve Monaghetti and Nick Harrison have been competitors. The start is 9:00 am on the day and is easily found under the Moorabool Street Bridge in Geelong with plenty of nearby parking. The course is flat. There is over $3500 in prizes as well as additional spot prizes. As in past years, there is a $200 bonus for anyone breaking the open records. At $45 for early adult entry and $35 for early student entry, the race offers good value. An additional feature is the relay section with a team of three runners running approximately 3 X 7 km. The cost per team is 3 X $30. On-line entries will be available from early December. Entry numbers will be capped at 1000 and a race time cut-off will apply. But you don't need to be a marathon runner or a professional athlete to do it! Whether you're old friends, a group of mums, running buddies or work mates, with training and the right mental attitude just about anyone can be a Trailwalker. Each team must commit to raising at least $1,000 to support Oxfam's work around the world, including Indigenous Australia.
